‘The Entertainer’ brings one-man show to Texarkana

Self-described as “The Entertainer,” celebrity impersonator Jason Hewlett will bring his many characters to Texarkana in the name of affordable health care.

Hewlett will highlight the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System Foundation’s first Foundation Gala to benefit the UAMS AHEC-SW Texarkana Community Clinic on Feb. 13. The gala, held at Northridge Country Club, starts with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

“It’s a Las Vegas-style one-man show,” said Hewlett, who said he entertains with clean, family entertainment. His show includes impressions, comedy and original pieces.

“The real goal is just to make those people laugh real loud and enjoy an evening where they might dig into their pockets a little deeper,” Hewlett said.

Though he’s on the road a lot, he loves his job.

“The best part about it for me is realizing that I’m living my sole purpose in life, which is to spread joy.”

Among the popular people and characters he impersonates are Elton John, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, Ricky Martin, Alvin & the Chipmunks, The Temptations, Louis Armstrong and Jim Carrey, whom he believes is his most popular impersonation.

Though he’s never performed in Texarkana, he is looking forward to it.

“We’re going to have a wonderful hour’s worth of entertainment,” said Hewlett.

His clients include the Boy Scouts of America, National Alzheimer’s Association and the Jerry Lewis Annual Labor Day Telethon. He plays Las Vegas venues regularly.

Hewlett is a Utah native who performed his first show for his third-grade class. He’s also released an album of original music called “Good to Me.”
