Meet Orem Artist James C. Christensen -- On Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Orem Public Library meet renowned artist and Orem resident James Christensen as he discusses his art and his new book "Men and Angels," the single largest collection of his paintings ever published. An unique opportunity to glimpse into the mind of the artist whose art holds up a mirror to the universal trials and triumphs of life. Christensen will be available for a book signing before and after his presentation.

SCERA's Theatre for Young Audiences presents musical "A Year with Frog and Toad" -- Shawn Mortensen and David Whitlock portray the title characters in SCERA's Theatre for Young Audiences production the Broadway musical of "A Year With Frog and Toad," directed by Jerry Elison. Based on a series of beloved and prize-winning children's novels, the musical tells the tale of best friends Frog and Toad, illustrated on stage through comical vignettes and melodies.
The Theatre for Young Audiences production hops from page to stage Feb. 23 through March 13. Public showings will be Mondays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. with reserved-seat tickets available for $6 for adults and $4 for children (age 3-11), students (w/ID) and seniors (65+). Tickets are available from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays at the SCERA Center box office, 745 S. State, Orem, by calling (801) 225-ARTS or online at www.scera.org.
The first two Monday showings -- Feb. 23 and March 2 -- are already sold out.
SCERA's 4th Annual Evening of Stars Benefit Arts Gala on Feb. 21 -- The SCERA Center for the Arts announces its 4th Annual black tie Evening of Stars Arts Gala, in on Saturday as part of an elegant evening that includes dinner, live and silent auctions, entertainment and presentation of the Star Awards hosted by popular entertainer Jason Hewlett, who is known for his dead-on celebrity and music impersonations. The Star Awards, the highlight of the evening, honors groups and individuals who have made and continue to make significant contributions to the arts in Utah County.
Honorees for 2009 are: Kurt Bestor (The 2009 Star Award - the evening's top award); artist Arnold Friberg (Lifetime Achievement); Thomas S. Monson (Advocate of the Arts); Michael Ballam (Music); Gary Price (Visual Arts); Lee & Linda Wakefield (Dance); Marvin Payne (Theatre); Alan & Karen Ashton (Friend of the Arts - Individual); Bassett Furniture (Friend of the Arts - Corporate); and Verdalee Barron (Volunteer).
Tickets for the entire evening are $95 per person. Tickets for the Star Awards and entertainment only are just $10 per person. A table of ten may be reserved for $950. Reservations may be made by calling (801) 225-ARTS.
